message from Lukax Santana: "Just to let you know this is the formation for the (recent) Quilombo home match: Paul Moss, Alquimia, Ximena, Lukax plus the kind participation of a duo of a chilean poet Luna Montenegro and colombian trombone player Guillermo Torres, and we will have a friend of Alquimia on projections/visuals whatever... plus the performer Gobira, the guy with the candles and the canvas."

to bring and to synthesise the musics of the world into creative composition and improvisation and so many many things we have not thought of yet (buy my CD says Paul).
You've heard of World Music which smoothes off the corners til its not from where it came from any more? This is the opposite!  (MDC)

music, experimental, latin-american, contemporary, new musics, free jazz, collective improvisation, music you may never have thought could exist
There have been many lineups in the history of Quilombo with the core of Lukax Santana and Paul Moss, but sharing the same ethos and mutual appreciation.   A few of the pictures below are clickable for more information some not.    Some musicians just dont talk about themselves very much, you just have to listen.

some notes on Richard Carter and recent addition Ximena Alarcon from Lukax Santana:

Richard Carter, was in the first QE incarnation. He did some gigs, one studio recording, then he left as usually happens as we refuse to play tunes. Anyway, he was a good congas player.

Ximena Alarcon's bio: Colombian New Media Artist: was born in Bogota, Colombia in 1972. She has worked with cultural processes and expressive dynamics.Ê Her artistic work has been strongly influenced by community expressive experiences with young people in Bogota, and workshops, exhibitions and concerts, with new media and sound artists in Barcelona, Bogota, and London.Ê She has developed individual works such as Metro, CD Rom Multimedia 1998; Landscape, Sound Diffusion 6 speakers 2002; Beat, Electroacustic Composition for Sound Installation 2002.

In case you don't remember, Ximena was the woman operating the minidisc behind stage and playing sound from 3 CD players around the church (May 2003) and NOT Angela, the woman shaking the shakers.

Tomorrow Thursday (12 June 03) I will be interviewed by the BBC World Service, for a programme about music in London, so I'll be playing QE music to unsuspected listeners around the world.Ê I fantaziseÊof a naked beautiful Australian woman in a beach listening QE in the transistor, or some young guys in a garage in Pernambuco listening high in some local marijuana or a herdsman in Tanzania in his way home thinking what the f*ck is that!.

Hasta pronto.
